The best laid plans...

In my last post, I showed you the binder that I was putting together for my sub for when I went off on maternity leave.  My plan was to go into school one more day, leave all of my plans, gather the necessary binders, even show the sub around (who was coming in on that last day of mine to sort of "learn the ropes" and meet the class.)   Well, as we all know, even the best laid plans tend to veer off course every once in a while, no matter how planned they are (and with a 3rd c-section that was scheduled since almost the time I conceived....what could be more planned?? ;))

You see, I went in that next day (which happened to be a Tuesday) for a last minute ultrasound to check on the size of the baby (since I had gestational diabetes and all.)  It was supposed to be a quick little check that would put me at school before the bell even rang to pick up the students.  During the check, the doctor saw that the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby's neck twice.  Since I was so close to my due date anyway, he sent me off to the hospital immediately.  It is better to be safe than sorry in this situation so I found myself being admitted to the hospital, hooked up to the IVs, and wheeled in to the OR a week before the plan!

Luckily, my binder and all of the lesson plans for the remainder of the week were at school.  My sub jumped right in and began her long term assignment a day early.  And as for me....

teachinginroom6.blogspot.comWell, my family welcomed Cameron Kiyoshi into this world a week before we expected to.  He came out perfectly healthy at 9lbs and 20.5 inches and has completed our family.   We are all in love with this little boy, who does nothing more than eat, sleep, and poop. What else could we ask for?  :)

And I know you come to the blog for teaching ideas, not birth stories, so I promise to be more on that in the coming weeks.  I am healing up nicely, and have enough energy back to start posting like I used to. Until next time, readers, I will leave you with a picture of our new family.  :)

  2. Congratulations! So glad that everything worked out perfectly, your family is beautiful! :) Totally know about best laid plans, my younger 2 both came a month early (induced) due to preclampsia. Not the best feeling to be rushed to the hospital on doctor's orders. Congrats again!
