I am not crafty.
There I said it. I have all of these grand ideas (spurred on in no small part by the HGTV channel and Pinterest.) But somehow, they just never get done. I mean, I can put up a bulletin board with fancy borders, but when it comes to making things....that is best left to the experts.
HOWEVER, I can do simple things. So that is what this Monday Made It with 4th Grade Frolics is. A simple little craft that I thought would be cute in my classroom. (and, yes, I am aware it is Tuesday...but I am on Summer time here....)
Every year, we take school pictures and, every year, I get the class composite. I have NO idea what to do with it so usually, I do nothing. Well, not this year. I have made a nice EASY frame to put it in. :)
Secret #2....I am not actually in Room 6 :) |
Here is how I did it.
Step 1: Gather materials (wooden frame, wooden tile letters, cording, 2 push pins, wooden number, acrylic paint, glue)
Step 2: Paint the number and the frame in desired colors. I choose black and white because they are neutral. Usually our composite picture is blue, so I figured it would go well. Plus, the black and white will match any color scheme I choose for my room.
Step 3: String up the letters to spell the word "Room". I tied each letter in place on the cording. I didn't want them flopping around.
Step 4: Tack the cording down on the frame with the thumbtacks (I actually painted these black, as they were white)
Step 5: Glue on the wooden number. Be careful of placement, as you don't want any students to be covered up once you put in the picture.
Step 6: Place the composite picture in and, viola, you are done!
So that is about as crafty as I can be right now. Easy and to the point on my craftiness :) What have you made this summer?
Evidence that you ARE crafty ... these are AdOrAbLe frames, Stephanie!
ReplyDeleteThanks Barbara! You are too kind. I just wish I could make all of those things that people post on Pinterest, you know...the really awesome looking things. Maybe one day ;)
DeleteAnd who says you're not crafty! You did a great job. Sometimes the best ideas are the simplest! :) Your frame idea would make a great teacher gift too!

Thanks! I actually bought letters to make the READ sign that you made in your room last year for my library. I have a vision for them. Let's see if I can actually get that done! :)

Deleteso cute!
ReplyDeletethis is way crafty girl, I don't know what you are talking about! But in all seriousness I do because I had to fess up the same thing on my blog...just not crafty in that way like so many others are. But this frame...not only is it absolutely adorable (love the neutral!) but what a great idea for that class picture! I love it Steph :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I usually just stick the class composite and the teacher composite up with a pushpin, but this way it would look nice (and wouldn't be a sore thumb in the room). Will definitely copy you on this project. Thanks!

I feel the same when it comes to being crafty. I am pretty good at duplicating when there are explicit instructions. Thanks a bunch! I will definitely be doing this one this year. ;)
